Best of OPM IP Rondalla Sountrack

Hi everyone,

It's been great having you as our audience! I never knew how many people would actually be tuning-in to our blog until I got so many comments back, saying well done! :)  Honestly, it was so amazing.

For post, I just wanted to share with you a collection of songs from performances, singers we've met/wanted to meet, TV show appearances, and more! All of the songs below are OPM or Original Pilipino Music, so if you were looking for English music, sorry 'bout that.

Who knows, maybe we'll be able to play more of these popular titles in the rondalla!

Thanks so much everyone! Every view counts!

Sierra Jamir

Saranggola ni Pepe by Celeste Legaspi
Nay-nay-nay-nay... Nay-nay-nay-nay! How many times did I hear that after Celeste Legaspi performed it with us at Resorts World? Well, so many times, it's now stuck in my brain. So, it is but fitting that I also put this catchy song on this blog!

Tambay by Sponge Cola
While walking through the hallway leading up to Korina Sanchez's studio, we passed by four guys holding instruments. They smiled and asked us who we were, and we told them we were the Rondalla group from Boston. They told us "That's awesome! Good luck!" While they walked away, I recognized the guy at the end. Wait that's the lead singer of SPONGE COLA! THEY'RE SPONGE COLA! Sayang naman...I wasn't able to get their autographs.

Ewan by Imago
Banda Kawayan played this version of Ewan during our performance at PUP. I remembered listening to this song in the Kami Na Tayo APO Hiking Society Tribute Album, but I had no idea it was this popular! I am so impressed by Banda Kawayan's pop rendition of the song! Fabulous, fabulous.

Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas by Angeline Quinto
This was the ending song to the PUP performance. By far, one of the best performances I have ever seen in the whole IP Rondalla Philippine Tour. The singer from the show sounds just like Angeline! I still can't believe we were a part of it all.

Ocho Ocho by Bayani Agbayani
We always need at least one classic. While we were jamming with the kids from PPP, this was one of the songs we sang and danced to! Can't forget Victoria's wonderful "ocho ocho" moves.

Bawat Bata by Apo Hiking Society
Stephen from the PPP Vision Band sang this song during our performance at SM San Pablo. What a talented young boy! Throughout the whole tour, Ceci and I were trying to figure out the title of this song. We searched and searched until my dad recognized the tune and said "Bawat Bata!" by APO Hiking Society.

With a Smile by Eraserheads
Ceci mentioned that when she was at St. Bridget, one of the boys sang to her a song. She didn't know the name of it and asked me if there was a song about smiles, and I immediately knew what she was talking about, "With a Smile by the Eraserheads!"

Leron Leron Sinta
During my interview on Good Morning Club with Edu Manzano and Tintin, he asked the IP Rondalla to play this song after reminiscing about his high school years playing banduaria at La Salle. Although I had never played it before, I stupidly said yes. If it weren't for Christi-Anne, who knew the song and started playing it with Paul, I would have been made a fool of myself on live TV.

Overdrive by Eraserheads
This is a personal favorite of mine. I bought their tribute CD when we were in Cebu, so I've been playing their songs non-stop. While we were traveling to Bicol and Batangas, I could hear the lyrics to Overdrive replaying in my head. It reminded me of how far we've traveled in the Philippines and how much more we still need to go!

Mag-exercise Tayo Tuwing Umaga by Yoyoy Villame
Hey guys! We played Manang Juaning at Loboc Elementary School since we found out that Yoyoy is from Bohol. Here's the original version from the famous Boholanon himself. It was fun...

Masaya by Bamboo
This is just a personal experience, but while I was in line at the airport security, I was looking at the guy behind me...not in a creepy way. For some reason, all I could think of was that he had an interesting nose, big eyes, spiky hair, and was very tall. I think he suspected that I was looking at him, so I stopped. If only I had known he was the singer, Bamboo! My dad was the one who told me later when we were at our gate. He said a guy at security pointed him out, and two girls wanted to take a picture with him once he was through the check point. If only he were on the same flight as me to Boston! Oh well...

Ryzza Mae Cha-Cha!
And how could I forget Ryzza? When we went to Eat Bulaga, Ryzza was in our dressing room, eating lunch and putting on our make-up. Later on this trip, when we were at the Bayan-Bayanan Elementary School, their drum & lyre played this song for their finale. ;) Enjoy.

  1. Hey Sierra don't forget you girls promised me a write up of your trip to the Philippines - I would like to release it in Inquirer or Star...Pls include the Resortsworld concert with the artists that performed with you and short snippets of the rest of your tour. Best if you can get quotes from many members of the rondalla. I need a picture of you guys using the shirts from Bench when you get them. They are with Tita Lilibeth and Tita Janeth. Korina also sent you t-shirts they are with Tita Janeth as well.

    1. Hi Tita, sorry for the late response! I started from scratch on the article this week, because the other one I wrote on the plane wasn't so good. I'll try to send you a final draft by the end of this week...and get a few quotes from other members too. It's been a pretty hectic week...Also, Tita Janeth just came back today with the shirts. I don't know if I'll be in Mass anytime before the 18th... I live in CT (near NY), so I don't make it there often. I hope that's fine with you! SJ
